It's on! Vic's Northcote candidates finalised

Victoria's Labor government hopes to hold on to the inner-northern Melbourne seat of Northcote at an upcoming by-election, but competition is great.

Twelve candidates will contest the November 18 poll, the Victorian Electoral Commission said on Thursday.

The list does not include a Liberal representative and the seat has been held by Labor since it was formed in 1927.

The by-election comes after the August cancer death of Labor MP and anti-domestic violence campaigner Fiona Richardson.

The party has selected Clare Burns to try and continue Labor's stronghold.
